VEGETABLE GROWING  - A practical guide to growing vegetables with plenty of hints and tips on growing and showing vegetables by Mark Saunders, head gardener at Fittleworth House in West Sussex. The demonstration includes a colourful selection of slides, examples of different vegetables (changes depending on what time of year the talk is given), a catalogue list and some of the tools and equipment used. An entertaining evening with something for people of all ages and abillities.

 

ANNUALS, BUT NOT BEDDING!  - A guide to choosing, sowing and growing Annuals in the garden. This talk looks at the whole process from the catalogue to pricking out to dead heading. We also look at using annuals in different ways for those who do not like bedding plant schemes! The talk is accompanied by photographs of some very beautiful annuals - most of which have been grown at Fittleworth House-  and a seed sowing and pricking out demonstration (though this is seasonal!).

 

PRUNING, A GENERAL GUIDE  -  This talk is designed to help out anybody who needs to prune plants but is unsure of what to do. As this is such a huge subject I have broken it down into some simple easy to follow rules that can be applied to almost all garden plants. With an emphasis towards safety and best practise this talk allows lively discussion and the chance to ask about individual plants. Photographs, tools and examples for pruning all accompany the lecture.

 

A HEAD GARDENERS YEAR  -  A colourful lecture depicting the trials and tribulations of a year at Fittleworth House. Form the planning and planting to the highs and lows this talk gives an insight into what its like to be a professional gardener! Including photographs, exhibits and useful tips

 

FITTLEWORTH HOUSE, PORTRAIT OF A GARDEN  -  A lecture designed to give an overview of this developing 3 acre, West Sussex garden. We look at the history, the plants, the inhabitants and the thought processes behind the design and ethos of the garden and its surrounding fields. Photographs and exhibits enhance the talk bringing the garden to life.

 

GARDEN PHOTOGRAPHS TO INSPIRE  -  A colourful lecture of photography and gardens in which we look at famous and not so famous gardens and how they might inspire our own garden designs. Gardens featured include Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Fittleworth House.
